AVB Audio Development Kit

This board has been obsoleted by the Low-cost AVB Audio Endpoint Kit.

Support for this board was discontinued on Apr 01, 2011.

The XMOS AVB Audio Development Kit builds on the power of XS1-G4 programmable devices and the flexibility of the XS1-G Development Kit (XDK) to demonstrate a four endpoint AVB networked audio system. All AVB features and supporting functions are implemented entirely in software using the XMOS event-driven processor architecture, and include:

  • Support for AVB endpoint requirements. The Ethernet interface, packet processing, timing synchronization, configuration/stream setup and media rate recovery is handled in the XS1-G device.
  • Support for emerging AVB Ethernet standards such as: IEEE 802.1as, IEEE 801.1Qav and IEEE P1722.
  • Flexible software based design implements both hardware interfaces and protocol layers in the same environment allowing flexibility in system design and easy modification.

Each XDK is supplied preloaded with AVB application software to support AVB Talker and AVB Listener operation, providing a configurable system that you can extend as required.

XMOS AVB Reference Design Kit

The LCD screen on each XDK is used to graphically display the frequency response of the received audio in real-time, using the DSP capabilities of the XS1-G4 to perform real-time FFTs. The LCD also displays the state of the PTP clock across the network.

Each XDK can accept an analog stereo audio input, for example from an MP3 player or iPhoneTM, and provides an analog audio output suitable for headhones or powered speakers.

NOTE: Since audio sources and headphones/speakers are an individual choice they not supplied with the kit.

Kit Contents

  • Four XDK Development Kits with 100Mbs Ethernet ports, stereo CODECs and basic clock recovery

For high quality audio clock recovery using a PLL and increased analog input/output channel counts, please additionally order an XAI Multichannel Audio Interface for each XDK endpoint

  • 8-port Ethernet switch. Note The included switch is not AVB compliant; the demonstration software contains an option to run over non-AVB compliant networks with reduced Quality of Service (QoS)
  • Ethernet Cables
  • Power supply for each XDK
  • Reference design software demonstration pre-installed on supplied SD card

Software Reference Design
