The role sits in the Marketing and Product Management team, managing the delivery of advanced voice technologies into the most demanding consumer markets to scope, on-time and to budget. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Management of multiple interdisciplinary development programs from specification to delivery.
  • Responsibility for programme scope, schedule and budget.
  • Identification and management of programme risks and issues.
  • Working with engineering, product management and operations teams to deliver pragmatic solutions to technical and logistical problems.
  • Preparation of summary and detail project documentation.
  • Management of third-parties – partners, contractors and customers – as appropriate.
  • Establish the Program Management Office (PMO) function; develop appropriate (best practice) programme management processes and manage continuous improvement within PMO.

This role is suitable for an experienced project or programme manager.

You’ll have:

  • Extensive experience in project/programme management in a technology business.
  • Experience of software and embedded system development.

Essential skills:

  • Strong C/C++ programming skills;
  • Experience with embedded systems and hardware;
  • Experience with networking and asynchronous IO applications;
  • Familiar with real time operating systems like FreeRTOS or ThreadX;
  • Experience with IoT frameworks and messaging protocols like MQTT;

Desirable skills:

You’ll work within the Software Group and interact with the applications team and developers – the ‘leading edge’ consumers of the tools that you will develop. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining the XMOS C, C++ and XC compilers;
  • Designing and implementing optimizations to address performance, code size, power consumption and timing closure for real-time programs;
  • Static and dynamic code analysis for measuring timing and detecting deadlock;
  • Generating DWARF debugging information for optimized code;
  • Actively contributing to and sharing LLVM compiler improvements with the open-source community;
  • Working with the apps team and with customers to contribute to development of the XC concurrent and real-time programming language;
  • Working with the silicon team to contribute to development of next-generation XMOS products and architecture; and

As a member of a software engineering group, your responsibilities will also include:

Comfortable working in a ‘start-up’ environment, you will be a key contributor to our compiler tool chain and simulator.  You will be an experienced hands-on engineer, and able and willing to influence the architecture and technology roadmap of all our tools.

You will have worked at a senior engineer level or above with 5-10 years of relevant experience and at your best working in a highly technical environment solving complex technical challenges.

Your experience will include:

  • Compiler development and strong understanding of compiler fundamentals;

  • Close partnership with and interface to the Architecture and System S/W teams, contributing to the top-level IC functional specification to company sign-off 
  • Block and system specification through to timing-clean Verilog RTL
  • Interface to the Physical Implementation team in support of closing timing and block/chip finishing
  • Support of PE and hardware bring-up teams with debug, once the chip is back from 1st manufacture.

You will have a proven track record in the design of complex digital ICs, with demonstrable skills in ASIC Hardware Design, from specification to RTL, including hands-on expertise in: 

  • Simulation; 
  • Timing, area & power awareness; 
  • Synthesis; 
  • Working with 3rd party IP and macro vendors (such as PLL, POR, PHY, SRAM, OTP, USB, MIPI); 
  • Verification, directed and random test; 
  • Coverage closure; 
  • Version and change control management; and  
  • In support of your design effectiveness, you will be familiar with tool flow automation, with a good understanding of scripting languages. 

You will also have experience in Chip Level Integration, including: 

  • Pad & complex IO structures & interfaces; 
  • Design-for-test; and  
  • Some experience of post tape-out silicon bring-up and debug. 

Your Technical Experienceshould include a working knowledge of processor architecture and processor design, with an appreciation of hardware and low-level software interoperation, such as how assembly code may be used during verification.   

Whilst this is a hands-on role, it would be beneficial if your background includes some leadership experience, be it of small design teams, working with 3rd party IP providers or directing sub- contractors.  You will also have participated in project planning and conducted project and release-readiness reviews.

  • Block and Chip level verification and metrics definition;

Working in a ‘start-up’ environment, you will participate in and influence all aspects of verification, from methodology to tools, validating from block to chip level.

You will have a proven track record in the verification of complex digital ICs, with demonstrable skills in ASIC Verification, from test specification to metric driven sign-off, including hands-on expertise in: 

  • Hardware Verification Languages theory and practice; 
  • Strong knowledge of RTL test-plan generation, assertion based and formal verification techniques and coverage analysis; 
  • Directed and Constrained Random test approaches; 
  • Hands-on experience integrating 3rd party VIP, such as IO protocol checkers, and in verifying 3rd party IP (such as USB2, ethernet, PCIe, MIPI etc); 
  • Generation and maintenance of verification metrics;
  • In support of your verification effectiveness, you will be familiar with tool flow automation, automatic regression and queuing systems, with a good understanding of scripting languages; 
  • Version and change control management. 

Ideally your experience will also include: 

  • Chip level verification;  
  • Use of assembly code / software in processor core verification; and 
  • Some Embedded programming experience would be an advantage. 

Your Technical Experience should include an understanding of processor architectures, and a working knowledge of processor verification, which could have been gained through SoC or FPGA designs, giving you an appreciation of hardware and low-level software interoperation, such as how assembly code may be used during verification.

This role reports to the Director of Hardware Design, based in our Bristol office. Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Close partnership with and interface to the Silicon Design Team, ensuring a right-first-time design;
  • Block and Chip level test specification, verification methodology and metrics definition;
  • Executing and tracking the verification plan through to sign-off;
  • Supporting the design team in closing coverage.

You’ll need to be self-directed, proactive and able to work independently. You’ll enjoy solving day-to-day problems with limited direction and be able to make careful judgements about what level of proof is required to validate XMOS’s chip designs through to right-first-time silicon.

Who we’re looking for

  • Prior experience verifying IO protocols or sub-systems such as USB2, ethernet, PCIe, MIPI etc;
  • Directed and Constrained Random test approaches, and use of assembly code / software in processor core verification;
  • In support of your verification effectiveness, you will be familiar with tool flow automation, automatic regression and queuing systems, with a good understanding of scripting languages;
  • Version and change control management.

You will also have experience in Chip Level Verification, including:

  • Pad & complex IO structures & interfaces;
  • Working with 3rd party IP and macro VIPs (such as PLL, POR, PHY, SRAM, OTP, USB, MIPI);
  • Embedded programming experience would be an advantage

Your Technical Experience should include a working knowledge of processor architecture and processor design, with an appreciation of hardware and low-level software interoperation, such as how assembly code may be used during verification.

Whilst this is a hands-on role, it would be beneficial if your Background includes some leadership experience, be it of small verification teams, working with 3rd party IP providers or directing sub- contractors. You will also have participated in project planning and conducted project and release-readiness reviews.
