Bristol, UK and Sunnyvale, CA, November 26, 2009.

XMOS has been named winner of the Electronics Innovation Award at the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Innovation Awards 2009 held at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

The IET Innovation Awards span 15 categories and this year attracted over 300 entries from around the world. They represent a unique opportunity for innovators to be recognised and provide a showcase for the brightest ideas, highlighting the importance of innovation by celebrating its application across a range of engineering disciplines.

XMOS’ Innovation Awards entry entitled, ‘Complete system design with the speed and agility of a software flow’ focused on the XCore processor and described in depth its many ground-breaking innovations, how it is being exploited and how successful it has been in achieving its original objectives.

XMOS VP Marketing, Joerg Bertholdt said, “This award really does recognise the unique place XMOS technology has in today’s programmable device arena. XMOS devices were designed to enable real innovation and dramatically reduce costs and time to market – they’re delivering on all fronts.”

Nigel Fine, IET Chief Executive, said, “I would like to congratulate all the winning and shortlisted entries in this year’s IET Innovation Awards, which demonstrate genuine innovation and represent significant technological advances.”

“The entries which made it into the shortlist are a very impressive role call of innovation and although it may be a cliché to say ‘everyone is a winner’ in this case I am sure it is true. The awards highlight the depth and breadth of innovative work which is being carried out and it is clear from the range of entries that innovation is alive and well.”

The award categories were: Asset Management, Built Environment, Electronics, Emerging Technologies, Information Technology, Power and Energy, Product Design, Project Team, Measurement in Action, Security, Software in Design, Start-Up, Sustainability, Telecommunications, and Transport. The IET Innovation Awards 2009 were generously sponsored by: ABB, Areva T&D UK Ltd, EADS, Halcrow Yolles, National Grid, The MathWorks, NPL, Withers & Rogers and Zuken.

XMOS is transforming the way in which electronic products are designed. Its revolutionary event-driven multi-core processors make it easy to build systems entirely in software. XMOS designers enjoy the fastest route from idea to product, using standard programmable chips to create complete systems combining interface, DSP and control software. For entrepreneurs, researchers and designers in leading electronics brands, XMOS enables innovation and dramatically reduces costs.

XMOS is based in Bristol (UK), Sunnyvale (CA, USA) and Chennai (India) with sales offices and representatives across the world.
